Privacy Policy

The short version: StepGate stores all your data locally on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or sell any personal information. No account required. No tracking. No cloud.

1. Who We Are

2. Data We Read (HealthKit)

StepGate reads the following data from Apple HealthKit on your device:

This data is read directly from Apple HealthKit and processed locally on your iPhone. It is never transmitted to any server, third party, or cloud service.

StepGate also stores your personal preferences locally on your device, including your chosen step goal and first name (if provided during onboarding). This data never leaves your device.

3. Screen Time & FamilyControls

StepGate uses Apple's Screen Time API (FamilyControls framework) to manage app restrictions. This data is processed entirely on-device by Apple's framework. StepGate does not have access to which specific apps you use or for how long — it only applies and removes restrictions based on your step progress.

4. Live Activity & Dynamic Island

StepGate uses Apple's ActivityKit to display real-time step progress on your iPhone Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. Live Activity data (current steps, step goal, earned screen time) is generated locally on your device and displayed through iOS. This information is never sent to external servers.

You can enable or disable Live Activities for StepGate at any time via iPhone Settings → StepGate → Live Activities.

5. Push Notifications

If you grant notification permission, StepGate may send you local push notifications to encourage you to reach your step goal. These notifications are scheduled locally on your device — they are not sent from any external server and no personal data is transmitted as part of this process.

You can manage or disable notifications at any time via iPhone Settings → Notifications → StepGate.

6. Weekly Report Card

StepGate generates a weekly summary of your step activity (steps walked, goals reached, streak) entirely on-device. You can optionally share this report as an image — for example to Instagram Stories. When you share, only the image you choose to share is sent, through iOS's standard share sheet. StepGate has no access to where you share it.

7. Local Event Logging

StepGate records certain in-app events locally (for example: when a daily goal is reached, when the paywall is shown, when a subscription starts). These events are stored only on your device and are not transmitted to any server or analytics service. They are used solely for improving your experience in future app updates.

8. Data Storage

All health, fitness, and usage data stays on your device. StepGate does not transmit, store, or share your data with any server, third party, or cloud service. StepGate does not require an account and has no servers. There is no cloud component of any kind.

9. Subscriptions

StepGate offers auto-renewable subscriptions:

Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID Account Settings. We do not have access to your payment information — all transactions are handled by Apple.

10. Third-Party Services

StepGate does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. We do not share any data with third parties.

11. Children's Privacy

StepGate is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@samuelbrask.com.

12. Your Rights

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you can delete all app data at any time by uninstalling StepGate. You can also revoke HealthKit access at any time via Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → StepGate.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
